Sonappa Overview

Music lessons that can be taught by anyone

Designed for non-specialist teachers with busy schedules. Sonappa is a complete, online music curriculum for Key Stage 2 learners that can be delivered effortlessly without extensive musical training or hours of preparation.

The UK’s most accessible music programme

Your pupils create, perform, and share their own music — while you focus on keeping them engaged and creative.

Teach music with Sonappa in 3 simple steps:

  • Step 1

Login and choose your digital music lesson from our library.

  • Step 2

Read the accompanying lesson plan to see what your pupils will learn.

  • Step 3

Play the animated video on your smartboard or projector and supervise your class.

You already have everything you need

Sonappa lessons can be taught on whatever learning devices you have available, and don’t rely on instrumental tuition or complex music theory.

Each video walks your pupils through KS2 lesson tasks using GarageBand or BandLab. Both are free, easy-to-use digital music-making tools:

GarageBand is super intuitive to use and comes pre-installed on all Apple devices - including your school’s iPads!

BandLab is great for non-Apple devices - laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, etc. No installation; access through a browser.

“Teaching music for me has always been something that I’ve struggled with, not being musical. But teaching music like this with digital technology… it’s been so good. I feel confident to go and teach other classes and even my peers using Sonappa and GarageBand. My Primary 6 class had a session today, and they’re already raving about it.”

Andrew Armstrong | Class Teacher, St Anthony’s Primary School

The students have been totally engaged with the Sonappa programme. Not just the ones who take up instruments - it’s good for creativity amongst all of them.
