About Sonappa
Giving teachers the tools and confidence to create enriching, inclusive musical experiences for every pupil
We believe that music education plays a fundamental - yet often overlooked - role in the creative development of students across different ages and cultures. By empowering teachers with the most accessible music programme in the UK, we aim to bring engaging music lessons to pupils of all backgrounds and abilities.
A better way to teach music
With cut after cut to music funding in schools, and more demands on their time than ever, we saw teachers increasingly struggle to effectively plan and deliver high-quality music lessons. To make matters worse, limited training opportunities, perceived lack of subject knowledge and low teacher confidence have further impacted music standards across the UK.
We knew something had to be done, and we knew there had to be an easier, sustainable, and more enjoyable way to teach music in classrooms.
In 2021, we built Sonappa - the UK’s most accessible music resource for classroom teachers. Our programme of step-by-step animated music lessons, complete with detailed lesson plans and online support, leverages advancements in digital music software to remove barriers to teaching and learning music. With just basic digital skills and no specialist subject knowledge, any teacher can be a music teacher.
“Sonappa is straight to the point and has allowed me as a novice music user to really immerse myself in a topic that I was previously unfamiliar with.”
With nearly a decade of experience as an instrumental teacher across a range of institutions, Aidan has worked primarily with children and young adults - helping them develop industry skills while exploring music as a pathway to creative expression and critical thinking.
Through his own experiences at school, he experienced firsthand how limited opportunities and resources can make musical growth difficult. Recognising that most children need structured support, accessible resources and meaningful social experiences to thrive musically, he joined the team at Sonappa.
Sonappa’s ready-made lessons on Digital Music-Making foster individuality, autonomy, and confidence - qualities every child deserves the chance to develop.
Sonappa is our commitment to making music education inclusive, modern, and enjoyable for teachers and pupils alike.
We truly believe we’ve created something amazing. And, while we’re improving and streamlining our resource all the time, we can confidently say that it takes only a few minutes to start using Sonappa.
Are you ready to teach your next music lesson the easy way, to see your pupils come to life as they create their very own music?

Made by teachers, for teachers
Meet Cathel - the creator of Sonappa. Through teaching music and sound production for over two decades, he developed a deep understanding of how young people engage with music and the barriers many face when it comes to traditional music education.
His concern for the accessibility of music education led to the creation of Sonappa. Drawing on extensive experience teaching Digital Music-Making (DMM), Cathel recognised that pupils connect powerfully with music when it involves familiar technology and social collaboration. DMM not only engages all learners but also delivers strong educational outcomes, breaking down barriers that can make traditional approaches feel inaccessible.
With this insight, Cathel designed Sonappa so that non-specialist teachers can confidently lead lessons with the right support and resources.
